To replace a missing tooth, the preferred solution is to place a dental implant. Compared to other options, such as bridges and removable dentures, this method provides the most durable and natural replacement. The procedure involves surgically inserting a titanium screw, acting as an artificial tooth root, into the jawbone where the missing tooth was located. The jawbone will naturally grow around the implant and create a solid foundation for a replacement tooth to be attached on top. The healing period can take several months to allow the implant to integrate properly with the bone and gum.
After healing an abutment and custom-made crown is attached to this base restoring both the functionality and appearance of the tooth.
In some cases, the jawbone may not be thick enough to support a dental implant. In such cases, a bone graft may be necessary. This surgical procedure involves adding bone to your jaw to strengthen and prepare the implant site.
After grafting, it is necessary to wait a few months before placing the implant to give the bone time to heal and accept the graft.
